Water Water Water.....

Water is the biggest necessity in life.

Earlier this used to be a mere sentence for me but somehow a week back it turned out to be a sentence of utmost importance. It was a mere sentence for me because before last week whenever I was in need of water I used to get it quite easily but last week I got an opportunity to stay in a so called Five Star hotel (I have to find out the authority who gave the hotel that status). I reached the hotel in midnight (thanks to flight delays) and I was dying for water. I asked at reception where can I get water. The answer I got is worth mentioning: “Sir, there is no water, the only place you can get water is in vending machine this time. Or in morning you will get it in hotel’s restaurant”. No worries, I thought of taking a bottle from the vending machine. I went to vending machine and saw that all the drinks (soda, water, etc.) were of $2.00 and moreover there was no water bottle. I came back to reception to inquire about water and the only answer (that I didn’t want to listen at all, but….) I got was, “then you have to wait till morning”.

The only thing I can say at that moment was “Thank you….”

For how long this Sports ERA will last?

Here are some of the highlights of Indian sports which will definitely bring smile to some of the Indian sports fans:

1. Winning Test Cricket Series In England..21 years after Kapil and team had done it.

2. A Major Win - Nehru Cup in Soccer - Perhaps after 2 decades..a major trophy in soccer

3. Blanking out South Korea in Men's Field Hockey to Win the ASIA CUP

4. Nice Performance by Sania Mirja throughout the year...to stay in top 30

5. Rupesh Shah and Pankaj Advani....The WORLD CHAMPIONS in Time and Points Format in Billiards.

6. India wins the World T20I championship.

7. Vishwanathan Anand became the World Champion.

Definitely this is a matter for which each Indian's can feel proud of. The sports results have been very pleasing and consistent since April 2007.

But the big question that is bugging is "For How Long This Winning Streak Will Continue".
I can see the downfall before writing this blog, such as:

1) Sania is out of Japan open.

2) India again on loosing track in limited over match against World Champions of that category.

Hope the others will not let India down.

NEW-clear Power

India, 1974: tested its first nuclear device at Pokhran in the Rajasthan desert on May 18. But long before that Indira verbally authorised director of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Raja Ramanna, to ‘go ahead’ and prepare for a test on September 7, 1972. 20 months after that, Indira didn't consult any of her Cabinet ministers. The only people in the know apart from the scientists were her close advisers P N Haksar and D P Dhar. Both advised against it.

Indira would have been well aware of the global consequences of the test. Nuclear isolation would certainly follow, as indeed it did. Despite that she went ahead. Defence minister Jagjivan Ram was not told about the test till after the event and foreign minister Swaran Singh was given 48 hours notice. Her decision was to decisively change the global nuclear reality. That was for better or worse is a big question mark "?". But not the fact that it took guts to defy the world.

Thinking technically..

Almost 1,750,000 years ago a bridge (Rama's Bridge) was built between India (Rameshwaram) and Lanka (know as Sri Lanka in modern age). Forget the epic "Ramayana" and just think about of those people who were the architect of this bridge who can make a bridge, chain of shoals, of 18 mi (30 km) long, in the Palk Strait between India and Sri Lanka।

It can be easily concluded that how strong the architecture of that age was. In this modern technology age where we have several modern equipments available we cannot even think of making such type of bridges.

Now it's a question worth million dollar that where did such a intense thinking about architecture design gone? I think that, technology should improve as the time passes and we should be able to make better architectures. Now if we see that Rama's bridge was made 1,750,000 years ago, so after 1,750,000 we should be able to at least make a bridge on say Pacific Ocean. But that is not the case.

Also if we consider this epic (Ramayana) true (on the grounds of Rama's Bridge) then in Ramayana, there was a aerial car (known as Pushpak Viman) that travels with the speed of mind and it was able to grow large and small at a wish. Now in this modern age we are able to make aerial car but still it cannot fly with the speed of mind, so we are lacking in technology compared to that age's technology.

At this point my only question is "where has all that technological thinking gone?"

Tommy Love

He was one of my classmates. One day he told one of my friend that he saw a greeting card "Tommy Love". My friend was amazed!!. He thought that its a very strange thing that now a days there were greeting cards for dogs too.
Anyways, he thought he should see those type of special cards himself. On weekend he went with my classmate and asked him to show the special card. Without any delay my classmate brought that card.
A series of laughter broke when he saw that card for "To My Love".

Waaaah Taj....

Finally the pride and glory of The Great India "The Taj Mahal" again got the esteemed position in New 7 Wonders list. Thanks to those (all across the globe) who voted for Taj and helped it in maintaining a position in the 7 wonders list.
But how worth the voting system is? How can the result of thing of such a great importance be highly dependent on public votes? Are these votes really important or its just a business strategy?
If a monument of a immence populated country is choosen for the race and the other monument is of the country with very low population and if the public votes are going to play a big role in the result then.... everyone knows what will happen...
It's always right to have public opinion, and thats what the judges are made for. The sole responsibility of the judges are to take public opinion, apply their logic and give the result (with certain explanations) that should be acceptabe by everyone.
I see these public voting as a big business. A business that does not bother about emotions of general people. A business by which people will loose their charm/excitement for any competition.

Not only 7 wonders, I see that all the competitions want public votes and the results of some of the competitions are only dependent on public votes.

Thanks to some sports in which the competitor has to show his ability, instead of relying on public votes, to be a winner. Believe me if this happens the same way as it is now then the day is not far when there will be no competitors at all from least populated regions.

What!! Technology.... huuuh

I called "Customer Care" of a very reputed "Cell Phone Service Provider" as I lost my cell phone somewhere. I asked them that how can they help me in tracing my lost cell phone. The only answer that I got from them was "we cannot trace the cell phone, and we cannot do anything in finding your lost cell phone". They did not even bother to make effort in finding my phone, instead they started telling me the rates of new cell phones that I can take in replacement of my lost cell phone.
Everyone should be aware of the fact that there are multiple technologies available by which a service provider can easily trace cell phone's location. I doubt what these technologies are for if the service providers are not utilizing them to help valuable customers for their misfortune.
